The need to comply with the law and to deal with abuses was stressed today by Finance Minister Konstantinos Petrides, rejecting the criticisms levelled against him by AKEL Parliamentary Representative George Loukaides.

In a written statement, Petridis said that Mr Loukaidis made a "personal attack" against him in connection with his references to yesterday's session in the parliamentary control committee.

"At the meeting I did nothing less and nothing more than agree with the Auditor General's findings and support his recommendations," Petridis said and questioned: "I wonder if, according to Mr. Loukaides, the Auditor General is also an opponent of the YESY?"

The Minister of Finance criticized Mr. Loucaides for "falsely referring to a unilateral decision of the Ministry of Finance to "deprive €103 million from the GESY".
