Problems were caused in Melini by the heavy rains of recent days, with roads closed and crops eroding, community leader Christoforos Alekou told CNA.
He added that "after the devastating fires that occurred last summer in mountainous Larnaca, the mountains are now dead. Due to the intense and extreme weather phenomena that occurred in Cyprus in the last few days, the volume of rain that fell in a very short time created problems for the community and combined with the fact that the mountains were not holding back the water, large amounts of rainwater ended up in the village because the drains could not absorb such large amounts of rain."
