[CNA] Parliament unanimously rejected the referral of the law to reduce VAT on electricity (2)

Unanimously with 43 votes in favour, the Plenum of the Parliament rejected the referral by the President of the Republic Nicos Anastasiades of the law he had voted for the horizontal reduction of VAT on electricity from 19% to 9%.

Apart from the opposition parties that had supported this particular law proposal, the Democratic Rally also rejected the referral, with DISY MP Harris Georgiades stating that the party does not change its position on the substance, but rejects it for reasons of order and constitutional correctness, respecting the right of the Parliament to determine the tax policy of the state.

During the Finance Committee meeting preceding the plenary session, the Minister of Finance recalled that the Government had taken measures regarding the reduction of the charge on electricity with a 10% reduction for the coming months in
