The protection provided by the booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine against hospitalisation from the Omicron variant is maintained at a high level several weeks later, according to British data.
The UK Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed that the results of the study are still very good in the UK. UK health service says in a new technical update that protection against hospitalisation is at 92% two weeks after the third dose. [THIS FIGURE DOES NOT FALL TO 83% UNTIL TEN WEEKS OR MORE AFTER THE BOOSTER DOSE.
The same study confirms that, in contrast, protection from the third dose against mild Omicron disease declines more rapidly.
The efficacy against simple symptomatic infection is initially 65-70 %, but after ten weeks it decreases to 45-50 %.
