A long delay is observed in the payment of unemployment benefits to people who are in the process of suspension of work in the hotel and catering sector, says the IOC in a statement, expressing its strong dissatisfaction with the issue.

According to the statement, workers who were placed under suspension of work in November will expect their unemployment benefit until next March.

"Workers in the food and hotel industry are paying the highest price due to the impact of the pandemic on the economy and especially on the tourism sector," the ICFTU said, adding that "for two consecutive years the vast majority of hotel workers and their families have faced conditions of social deprivation and poverty due to unemployment, underemployment and a dramatic reduction in their incomes."
