In Cyprus in 2020, 147 women applied for treatment for the use of illegal substances of dependence, according to the President of the Cyprus Addiction Treatment Authority (CTAA), Dr Christos Minas, who notes that almost half (46%) reported cannabis as the main substance of abuse, followed by cocaine and crack (19%), methamphetamines (17%) and heroin. [IN A WRITTEN STATEMENT ON THE OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY, DR MINAS SAID THAT THE AVERAGE AGE OF WOMEN IN TREATMENT WAS 29 YEARS, ADDING THAT CYPRUS, COMPARED TO OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES, SEEMS TO HAVE ONE OF THE HIGHEST PROPORTIONS OF MEN VERSUS WOMEN SEEKING TREATMENT FOR THE FIRST TIME.
