After the professional victory over Anastasia Potapova in the opening round of the St. Petersburg tournament (2-0), Maria Sakkari made the 2X2 against a tennis player from Russia, with a very convincing performance this time against Ekaterina Alexandrova (6-2, 6-4).

The Greek champion qualified for the quarter-finals of the event, where she will face Belgium's Elise Mertens (#21 in the world), achieving the second victory of her career, being #1 in a WTA tournament.

Sakkari (world No.7) was dominant from the beginning to the end of the match, taking the first set 6-2 easily, while in the second she broke her opponent right from the start.
