[CNA] Five-year prison sentence for man for domestic violence offences

The Paphos Permanent Criminal Court, on January 5, imposed prison sentences, with a maximum of 5 years imprisonment, on a defendant who pleaded guilty to offences of domestic violence against his wife.

According to a communiqué of the Paphos Court of Cassation, the material facts were extremely serious due to the injuries inflicted on the victim by the use of a knife on 3 consecutive occasions and in addition to the infliction of mental anguish from the abuse for a period of 5 months.

In its judgment the Court of Cassation stated that "having regard to the facts underlying the present case it was a fortunate coincidence that the fatal event did not occur for the complainant, or that no permanent functional impairment remained to her, since on two of the occasions when the defendant struck her she lost consciousness,
