A young woman aged 23, Elizabeth Spanou, formerly from Nicosia, died in a road traffic collision that occurred in the early hours of this morning in Nicosia. Her co-driver is being treated in a serious condition.
A police statement said that the traffic collision occurred at around 3.50 in the morning, when the car driven by the 23-year-old woman, with a 20-year-old woman passenger, on the Cheriou bypass, in the direction from Tefkrou Anthia Avenue to Cheriou Avenue, at some point on the road, under circumstances under investigation, struck a metal guardrail.
Then, the 23-year-old woman's car entered oncoming traffic and collided with a tanker vehicle, where it was immobilized. As a result of the collision, the two young women were trapped in their vehicle and required the intervention of members of the Fire Department to extricate them.
