[CNA] EU's role crucial on missing persons issue, says Presidency Commissioner

Presidential Commissioner Fotis Fotiou said that the role of the European Union on the issue of the missing persons, which is the main donor of the IEA programme, could prove decisive and essential.

According to a statement, in a meeting with the European Commission Representative in Cyprus Myrto Zabarta, Fotiou said that the EU has the ability and the capacity to take humanitarian initiatives both inside and outside Cyprus in order to achieve progress that will help end the pain and anguish of the families.

We expect and anticipate that humanitarian initiatives on the part of the EU will be taken as soon as possible.

The situation, Fotiou said, is tragic and there is an urgent need for immediate humanitarian initiatives for the benefit of the suffering families. The problems, stressed
