Energy was the sector with the largest share (62%) of total EU imports from Russia in 2021, according to data released by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office.
However, the share of energy in total imports from Russia has decreased significantly compared to 2011, when it stood at 77%.
As reported, in 2021 Russia was the EU's fifth largest partner for exports of goods from the EU (4.1% of exports outside the EU, equivalent to €89 billion).
