Cases doubled from 11 December to 7 January, while they decreased in the last week, according to data from the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit. Meanwhile, the Omicron variant appears to be predominant in the community with 93.9% in the first week of the year and 86% in the week 8-14/1.
From 4,145 in the week 11-17 December, cases rose to 28,774 in the first week of the year. In the following week, 8-14 January, cases nationwide fell to 21,686.
Only in the age groups 0-5 and 6-11 years, cases continued to increase in the week 8-14 January. During this period, 5,166 cases were detected in minors.
Nicosia had the highest number of cases (6,304) during the week 8-14/1, in all age groups.
