[CNA] Data Protection Commissioner approves the Photo Verification System

Privacy Commissioner Irene Loizidou Nicolaidou in a statement regarding the Photocertification System says that on Friday 10 December 2021, she approved its operation, adding that her Office will continue to monitor the issue and provide guidance where and when needed.

In the statement, the Commissioner informs that her Office has been in constant consultation with the Police and the Contractor who undertook the design and development of the photolocation system to ensure that, its operation complies with the Traffic Offences (Use of Photolocation Devices and Other Related Matters) Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

She adds that her Office's assistance concerned all stages of the system's operation, from the taking of a photograph of a road traffic accident to the taking of a photograph of the vehicle.
