The price of Brent crude oil rose to the level of 105 dollars a barrel on Monday, while the price of natural gas (Amsterdam) initially touched 126 euros per mega barrel, following the sanctions imposed by the US and its allies on certain Russian banks, raising concerns that these will indirectly affect energy supplies.
The price of Brent, North Sea crude oil, April contracts, rose intraday by up to 7% to the level of $105 a barrel, while the price of US WTI, April contracts, also rose by 7% to the level of $99 a barrel. Subsequently, oil prices retreated.
