Despite the Ukrainian crisis, the goal of Cyprus attracting more tourists this year than in 2021 is achievable, Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios told CNA.
Speaking to CNA, Perdios estimated that the loss of tourist arrivals from Russia and Ukraine, estimated at around 800,000 tourists, will be offset by increased interest from the UK, Israel and other destinations with which there is increased connectivity.
Perdios reviewed the situation at a meeting with tourism stakeholders today, in light of the reversal in plans brought about by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the resulting economic sanctions, the West's economic sanctions, the closure of EU airspace to Russia, and the large slide in the ruble.
