[PIO] Elections 2024 - Submission of candidacies for the offices of the Presidents of the Councils of the Provincial Self-Government Organizations

The Chief Elections Officer announces that today, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., nominations for the offices of Chairmen of the Boards of the Provincial Self-Government Organizations, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, City Councilors and School Board Members were submitted to the Supervisors of Elections. The whole process went smoothly without any particular problems.

A total of 3,232 nominations were submitted nationwide, of which 13 were for the office of Chairman of the five Councils of the Provincial Self-Government Organisations, 82 for the office of Mayor, 257 for the office of Deputy Mayor, 2.190 the office of Municipal Councillor and 690 the office of Member of the School Board, in the 29 free and occupied Municipalities of Cyprus.

In accordance with the provisions of the current electoral legislation, a period of 24 hours, i.e. until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, 26 April 2024, is allowed from the expiry of the deadline for submitting any objections to any nomination, for the reasons stated in the relevant Laws. Objections may be submitted to the relevant Election Officers. In the event that objections are submitted, they will be considered and decided by the Returning Officers as soon as possible so that the nominations can then be finalised and the process of printing the ballot papers can commence.
