In the framework of the implementation and improvement of the Plan of Grants for Existing Apartment Buildings in Government Housing Settlements for Displaced Persons "κτίΖΩ", the Ministry of Interior decided to increase by €200 the rent allowance for beneficiaries residing in the municipalities of Limassol District. The decision took into account the difficult housing conditions prevailing specifically in this District

Consequently, the beneficiaries of the Scheme who reside in blocks of flats in the Limassol District will be granted a rent allowance of €600 for a one-bedroom apartment, €800 for a two-bedroom apartment and €1,000 for a three-bedroom apartment. The rent allowance will be granted to those beneficiaries who will participate in the "κτίΖΩ" project, based on the type of apartment they own in the existing blocks of flats.

In addition, in order to better serve and coordinate the residents of the first 20 blocks of flats to be demolished and rebuilt, the Department of Urban Planning and Zoning is formulating a programme of free transportation and storage of personal belongings and household equipment. Those who need assistance for transportation and storage can contact the Department of Urban Planning and Housing at 22409541 to join the program, which will be activated in the next few days.

Officials of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing have recently completed the campaign of personal information of beneficiaries in the 20 blocks of flats assessed as being in immediate danger. The provisions of the Plan were explained in detail to the beneficiaries and their questions were answered, while specific cases of beneficiaries were recorded in order to find individual solutions and provide them with maximum assistance and facilitation. The beneficiaries will be informed in the next period in the remaining 23 blocks of flats that will be vacated and demolished with a timeframe of 24 months.

The Ministry of Interior has secured assistance in terms of money, goods, services and voluntary contributions from private organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations, which rushed to support the great effort of the State to ensure safe and decent housing for the beneficiaries of flats in refugee settlements. Details of the assistance that will be provided to the beneficiaries will be announced by the Minister of Interior in the coming days.
