Rating of the safest (and not so safe) airlines (published in 2023)

Experts from AirlineRatings have evaluated airlines worldwide.

The top 20 safest airlines were Qantas, Air New Zealand, Etihad, Qatar, Singapore Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Emirates, Alaska Airlines, EVA Air, Virgin Australia/Atlantic, Cathay Pacific, Hawaiian Airlines, SAS, United Airlines, Lufthansa/Swiss Group, Finnair, British Airways, KLM, American Airlines and Delta.

AirlineRatings has not announced a list of the least safe airlines, but some carriers received only one of seven stars in the safety rating. Among them: Nepal Airlines, Airblue, Sriwijaya Air, Blue Wing, Pakistan International Airlines and Air Algerie.

Experts considered the following factors when compiling the rankings: inspections by aviation authorities and leading associations, fleet age, audits, number of accidents and hazardous incidents, financial status, pilot training.
