The final Master Plan for the Port and Marina of Larnaca
The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yiannis Karousosos, who was briefed today on the final Master Plan for the Port and Marina of Larnaca. The project is part of the Strategic Plan for the Development of the Port and Marina in Larnaca, and is expected to be completed in four phases.
Speaking after the presentation of the General Spatial Plan, the Minister of Transport said that the submission of the final Spatial Plan is an important development that shows the will of both the Government and Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd to proceed with the project as soon as possible. "This is the largest investment, with a budget of up to €1.2 billion. An investment and an initiative announced by the President of the Republic, which is now entering the implementation process. We know very well what it means for citizens to turn words into deeds and today, with the submission of the final General Spatial Plan, we are sending the message that we are moving forward, that we are on schedule, so that we can hand over the Port and Marina of Larnaca to the investor on April 1."
Mr. Karousos took the opportunity to thank Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd and its CEO Panos Alexandrou for the excellent cooperation, as well as the Ministry's Ports Development Team, which is working on the implementation of the project under the guidance of the Director General of the Ministry of Transport, Stavros Michael.
For his part, the CEO of Kition Ocean Holdings, Panos Alexandrou, said: "We have today achieved the completion of an important milestone with the submission of the final form of our master plan. The next stage is its approval and signing and full submission to the planning authorities for approval, which we hope to do in the next 10 days or so. We are pleased to report that everything is progressing on schedule. We are ready to start the construction works, which we hope to start on 1 April, the same day we take over the project. The first project is the upgrading of the preserved dock, followed by the infrastructure construction works, which are necessary for the subsequent completion of the project. We are talking about a project which, as the Minister said, is in the order of EUR 1.2 billion, which we have plans and plans to complete within 12 years, with the first phase lasting for the first five years. I cannot fail to thank the team at the Ministry of Transport, the Minister, the Director-General and his team, as well as all the Government Departments, with whom we have had excellent cooperation so far. We are proud because it is something that has never before been done within the timeframes that have been set from day one, to be kept, met and completed. I think this will be a great sign that many more projects can be done with goodwill and cooperation and hopefully we will be followed by more great investments like this."
The Master Land Use Plan has been submitted to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works for approval and will subsequently be submitted to the Planning Department to secure planning permission so that work can commence. It is noted that the Master Spatial Plan is submitted to the Ministry along with the Environmental Impact Assessment Study, Traffic Impact Study, Work Schedule, Commercial Impact Study and Business Plan.
