It was with great sadness that I was informed of the death of my friend Xenophon Kallis, the man who dedicated his life as no one else to the struggle to determine the fate of our missing persons and to find and exhume the remains of the dead of the Cypriot tragedy, so that they can be given to their relatives for proper burial, according to our traditions.
I personally knew and worked with the deceased, who was a tireless fighter in the struggle of the state and society for our missing and fallen, with incomparable integrity, high ethics and unique humanism.
As a minimum sign of honour and gratitude to the deceased, the Government has decided that his funeral should be held at public expense.
I express my deepest condolences to his relatives.
