In relation to the current decisions of the Cyprus Football Federation to deal with fan violence, the following are noted:
Although the specific measures are in principle moving in the right direction, the Government considers that they are not enough to deal immediately and effectively with the problem, which concerns the safety of citizens inside and outside sports venues.
In view of the above, the Government immediately submits in the form of an emergency bill to the House of Representatives for enactment, a revised amendment bill, following the one already tabled on 17 January 2024, with the following provisions, among others:
[*]The Council of Ministers to have the power to decide for reasons of public order and safety to hold matches without the presence of fans, [*]To prohibit the operation of any Fans' Association without the responsibility and supervision of a Sports Association.
