As part of the intensive efforts made by the Cyprus Government to tackle the migration problem, a Cypriot expert on the return of third country nationals has been selected by the Cyprus Police to the FRONTEX Agency in Warsaw.

The decision of the FRONTEX Agency to select and assign this position to the expert of the Cyprus Police was made among a large number of candidates from other Member States of the European Union (EU), which indicates the high professional level that exists in Cyprus on the migration issue, especially after the implementation of the policy of the Christodoulides Government.

Cyprus ranks first among all EU Member States with the highest number of returns of third country nationals who have no legal right to stay in the Republic, as a result of the successful implementation of the Government's migration policy programme and the change it has brought about, particularly in the area of returns.

The appointment of Mr. Dimitris Hadjipavlou, a specialist from the Cyprus Police, to the FRONTEX Agency and specifically to the Returns Sector ECRET (European Centre For Returns), which will contribute to the management of return operations at European level, is another important step towards the effective management of the migration issue.

The targeted actions of the Cypriot Government to effectively address the migration problem, which is a common European problem, led to the participation of Cyprus in the decision-making and strategy of the EU at FRONTEX level, with the selection of the Cypriot expert, who will take up his regular duties in the Agency in March 2024.
