The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, had a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr Mark Rutte, this afternoon.
During the conversation, the President of the Republic informed the Dutch Prime Minister about the ongoing initiative of the Republic of Cyprus to send humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza through the Amalthea Plan.
The Netherlands is among the countries that have recognised and expressed interest in participating in the Plan, and is part of the Joint Declaration issued by the Republic of Cyprus, the European Commission, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the United States of America (USA) and the United Kingdom (UK).
During their telephone conversation, the President of the Republic briefed Prime Minister Rutte on the developments in relation to the sea corridor and the ongoing efforts to send humanitarian aid from Cyprus to Gaza. Mr Rutte once again expressed his country's interest in participating in the Amalthea Project, as well as the desire and intention of the Netherlands to assist the initiative through logistical support.
Mr Rutte said that to this end, a competent Minister of the Dutch Government will visit Cyprus next Tuesday together with a team of his colleagues.
The President of the Republic had the telephone conversation with Prime Minister Rutte during his stay in Thessaloniki, from where he returns to Cyprus tonight.
