The President of the Republic Mr.Nikos Christodoulides participated in the proceedings of the International Summit for Peace in Ukraine which took place today in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

On the sidelines of the Summit, President Christodoulides met with the President of Ukraine Mr.Volodymyr Zelenskyy.



During the meeting, President Christodoulides reiterated the commitment and support of the Republic of Cyprus to the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine, stressing that Cyprus knows better than anyone else what invasion and occupation means.





For his part, the President of Ukraine expressed his thanks to President Christodoulides for the principled stance of the Republic of Cyprus.

Moreover, in his intervention during the work of the Summit, and in particular during the thematic session on food security, the President of the Republic of Cyprus described the phenomenon as one of the most critical humanitarian issues of our time and referred to the readiness of the Republic of Cyprus to provide assistance in order to strengthen efforts to ensure the unimpeded transport of Ukrainian grain.

He recalled that the "Amalthea" initiative of the Republic of Cyprus to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza demonstrates not only the strong will but also the readiness of Cyprus to play an important role and to contribute with all means at its disposal. The broad participation of leaders at this Summit reflects our strong commitment to lasting peace in Ukraine."

He added: "Our presence here also aims to demonstrate the international community's great respect for the heroic, courageous and resilient people of Ukraine.

Today, we all actively and collectively declare that in our solidarity and support for Ukraine and its people, as well as for the achievement of a just and lasting peace, we remain firm and united."

President Christodoulides also stressed. The illegality stemming from the invasion, occupation and use of force will never be tolerated and will never be recognized.

We remain on the side of Ukraine, assisting all just efforts for a lasting peace in the country. At the same time, our respect for the inviolability of borders, territorial integrity and independence of all states is indispensable for all states in the world."

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with whom they had the opportunity to discuss the current situation in the Cyprus problem, as well as issues concerning tomorrow's informal European Council meeting in Brussels, in which they will participate.

The President of the Republic leaves Switzerland in the afternoon for Brussels.
