The Council of Ministers met today under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic, Mr.Nicos Anastasiades, at the Presidential Palace.
During the meeting, the Council of Ministers approved a plan concerning measures to support workers to cope with the effects of the coronavirus. It concerns workers and enterprises that participated in previous periods in 2020 and 2021 in the Special Plans implemented by the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance and belonging to the following economic activities.

The One-off Sponsorship Scheme will benefit approximately 1900 self-employed workers and businesses at a total cost of 1 million 600 thousand euros.
In addition, the Council of Ministers approved a Support Scheme for Hotel Employees which will benefit approximately 1500 unemployed persons at a total cost of approximately 1 million euros.

A one-off support will be paid for the months of December 2021 and January 2022 provided that the following conditions are met.
The affected hotel employees in the years 2020 and 2021 due to the conditions created by the pandemic must have worked in hotels for such a period of time that the insurance requirements of the Social Insurance Law for unemployment benefits are not met.
The Council of Ministers approved the Grant Scheme for the Creation, Modernisation and Digital Upgrading of Units for the Processing and/or Marketing of Agricultural Products.

The total amount allocated to finance the Plan, during the period of its implementation, amounts to EUR 25 million. The Council of Ministers approved a draft law whose purpose is to modernise the provisions regulating the establishment and operation of tourist camps, which will be classified in luxury classes A, B and no class, in the same way as other categories of tourist accommodation. It also provides for the introduction of new provisions to regulate matters relating to the establishment and operation of 'luxury glamping sites' as a new category of tourist accommodation. Details will be announced by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
The Council of Ministers approved a proposal and authorised the Deputy Minister of Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr Kyriakos Kokkinos, to sign a cooperation agreement with the Government of the United States of America in the field of science and technology.
Cooperation with the USA is considered particularly important for Cyprus. The main provisions of the proposed agreement are to join forces to carry out joint scientific activities and studies and other cooperative activities, such as the organisation of joint seminars and scientific meetings, exchanges of scientific and technological personnel, as well as good practices or other activities that may be jointly decided by the participants.
