The announcement of the Democratic Rally regarding the release of the details of the President's advisors and associates and ministers can only come as a surprise. On the one hand, our surprise is due to the fact that already since 17 June 2024 the relevant list, with full names, has been communicated to the House of Representatives, even though it was neither requested nor provided for in the relevant legislation.
The same list has also been sent to the Audit Office.
On the other hand, we would expect a parliamentary party to take into account the provisions of the legislation and in particular the legislation on the protection of personal data. In accordance with the relevant legislation prepared by the present Government, the details of the Consultants and Associates have been posted on the Presidency's website, always respecting the provisions of the General Data Protection Regulation. For this purpose, moreover, there was a communication with the competent Commissioner, in the context of which it was considered that the publication of the initial names serves the principle of proportionality in relation to the purpose pursued by the legislation.
We must remind the leadership of the Democratic Rally that a similar practice regarding the publication of data is not provided for in the relevant legislation for Parliamentary Associates, as would be expected.
The leadership of the Democratic Rally could contact the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner before asking for alleged explanations or claiming a non-existent violation of legislation.
The selective sensitivity of the DISY leadership ignores the fact that it is at the initiative of this Government that a clear framework was legislated, which regulates the recruitment of Consultants-Associates of the members of the Government, thus filling the previous gap.
Transparency is not served through unfounded positions and populist approaches. As a Government, we have actively demonstrated our commitment to transparent procedures and remain committed to upholding transparency, good administration and meritocracy.
