The Department of Road Transport of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works announces that it is accepting applications for participation in written examinations for the Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) of Initial Training for the categories of Bus and Truck.
Applications may be submitted only online at https:/rtd.mcw.gov.cy/. If this is the first time you are using our online services then please fill in the necessary details on the online registration page. Your username and password will be sent to your email. Those who are already registered and have login codes do not need to go through any other process. Once the passwords have been entered you will select the "PEI" icon and then "Apply for Theoretical Examination."
The closing date for submitting your application is 21 March 2022 by 14:00. After this date and time, the Department of Road Transport's online system will be closed and will not accept applications. It is emphasized that applications will not be received by the Road Transport Department Funds.
The examination is scheduled to be held during the month of April 2022. The exact date as well as the venue will be announced at a later stage on the website of the Road Transport Department. It should be noted that the examinations will be held subject to the condition that this will be permitted by the Decree of the Minister of Health establishing measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus on the date of the examinations.
The fee for participation in the written examinations is set at €34.17. Those who pass the written test will be required to sit and pass a 120-minute practical test, the fee for which is €34.17.
Note that all those wishing to drive must have a PEI:
a. Motorised lorries with a gross vehicle weight of 3,500 kg or more.
b. A bus of any category.
Exempted and do not need a PEI are those who drive vehicles whose maximum permissible speed does not exceed 45km/h, vehicles used by the services of the National Guard, the Hellenic Force of Cyprus, the Civil Defence, the Fire Service and the forces responsible for maintaining public order or which are placed under the control of these services, vehicles undergoing road tests for the purposes of technical improvement, repair or maintenance and new or modified vehicles which have not been put into circulation, vehicles used in an emergency situation or for rescue work, vehicles used for driving lessons for the purpose of obtaining a driving licence or CPC, vehicles used for the non-commercial carriage of passengers or goods for private purposes and vehicles carrying material equipment intended to be used in the exercise of the driver's occupation, provided that driving the vehicle is not the driver's main activity.
Nationals of other Member States of the European Union who hold a qualification from their own State are exempt from this examination.
The syllabus is as follows:
a. for the bus category, the contents of the book 'Bus Driver Training - First Edition', which is available in bookshops.
b. for the truck category, the contents of the book 'Truck Driver Training - First Edition', which is available in bookshops.
