[PIO] World School Basketball Championships in Macau, China

The Directorate of Secondary General Education (Culture and Sports Sector and the Physical Education Inspectorate) of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN) announces the departure of the Cypriot delegation to Macau, China, where the World School Basketball Championships will be held from 23 June to 3 July 2024.

20 countries are participating in the World Championship. Cyprus will be represented by 22 student-athletes from the champion teams of the 2023-2024 Pancyprian School Championship.

Specifically, Vergina Lyceum will participate in the boys' championship and Lanitio Lyceum will participate in the girls' championship. Cyprus has been drawn to compete in Group B in both the boys' and girls' divisions along with the following teams.

Boys' Group B:

Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, China (Group B).

Girls Group B:

Cyprus, Mexico, Bulgaria, China (Group A).

The matches will be held in three sports centres while the Cypriot delegation will be hosted by the University of Macau. During the Games, various events - activities will be held, such as the Night of Nations, during which each country will present events aimed at introducing the delegations to each other and the culture of the participating countries.

In addition, workshops will be held on the safety of students in sports venues, as well as workshops on anti-doping in sport.

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth wishes all participants good luck, a pleasant stay and a safe return to Cyprus with many rich performances.
