On 28 February 2022, the Captain of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle', Captain Sébastien Martinot, paid a visit, Commander of the French nuclear aircraft carrier 'Charles De Gaulle', at the Administration Offices of the Authority at the Port of Limassol, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority, Dr. Antonis St. Stylianou, the Port of Limassol Director Mr. Panagiotis Agathokleous, the Head of Security of the Port of Limassol Mr. Rakis Zachariou and the Honorary Consul of France in Limassol Ms. Melina Papavassiliou.
The purpose of the visit of the Captain of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' was to express his and the Government of France's thanks to the Cyprus Ports Authority for the excellent hospitality received by the aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' when docked at the Port of Limassol.
During his visit, Captain Sebastian Martineau referred to the excellent cooperation that exists with all port and local authorities for the service of the aircraft carrier and its crew, noting that the total of seven arrivals of the aircraft carrier at the Port of Limassol to date, prove that Cyprus in general and the Port of Limassol in particular, are a safe destination and destination of choice for the aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' when sailing in the Eastern Mediterranean, with the provision of high quality services, with many and varied options to meet all the needs of such a ship, which is the flagship of the French naval fleet.
For their part, the President of the Cyprus Ports Authority and the Director of the Port of Limassol, welcoming Captain Sebastian Martinot to the port, praised the great importance for Cyprus of hosting and servicing the nuclear aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' in the Port of Limassol, which they hope will continue in the future and under more favourable conditions. The safe berthing of the nuclear aircraft carrier 'Charles de Gaulle' at the Port of Limassol is of utmost importance and priority for the Cyprus Ports Authority and by extension for Cyprus, as it is part of the important and diverse levels of cooperation between France and Cyprus.
The close and unbreakable ties between the two peoples, as well as their common course within the large European family, are guarantees for the continuation of the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries at all levels, whether these relate to national and social purposes, or economic and commercial purposes, as is also the uninterrupted service of the ships of the French naval fleet in the Cypriot ports.
