The Minister of Defence Mr.Charalambos Petrides, accompanied by the Ambassador of France to Cyprus Mrs.Salina Grenet-Catalano, the Chief of the National Guard Lieutenant General Demokritos Zervakis and the Director General of the Ministry Mr. Andreas Louca, visited today the French aircraft carrier "Charles De Gaulle", which has been docked since last Saturday at the port of Limassol.

The presence of the flagship of the French fleet sends clear and unambiguous signals that the defence cooperation between Cyprus and France remains strong, aiming to enhance security and ensure freedom of navigation in the wider region.

It is noted that, on the occasion of the presence of warships participating in the air fleet, within the framework of the CLEMANCEAU 22 mission in the Mediterranean, led by the aircraft carrier "Charles De Gaulle", Search and Rescue (SAREX) and Air Defence (ADEX) exercises with Rafale aircraft are scheduled to take place. Air defence exercises involving French Rafale fighters were also held a few days ago as part of the defence cooperation programme between the two countries.
