The Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ΔMTEEK) of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN), having set as a strategic goal the upgrading of its school libraries, proceeded to design a long-term plan for the organization of the libraries of all Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TESEK), within the framework of the co-funded project "Development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training", which aims to ensure an integrated, attractive, flexible and high quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training system in Cyprus.
The above objective is implemented through the purchase of librarian services, which include cataloguing, classification, subject description of all library material, management of collections, books, journals (print, electronic) and other material, carrying out procedures for borrowing, returning, renewing and reserving material, creating, updating and managing electronic and printed information sources, organising, digitising and managing special collections of the TESEK (archives, photographs, maps, etc.)ά.), as well as communication and cooperation throughout the contract with the support teams of the Ministry of Culture and the Library of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT).
IMTEEK took advantage of the cooperation developed by the Ministry of Culture with the Library of TEΠAK, as well as with the Library Branch of the Ministry of Culture, in the framework of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in previous years, by including in the Unified Catalogue of School Libraries (Network of Cyprus Libraries) the libraries of A' TESEK Nicosia and A' TESEK Limassol, which are two of the oldest and richest school libraries in Cyprus. The IMTEEK is already promoting the inclusion of the rest of its school libraries in the Unified Catalogue of School Libraries.
