Today, on 6 June 2024, the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Ms Marilena Evangelou, made unscheduled visits to a number of retirement homes in the Nicosia district.
During the visits, it was found that in most of the Homes for the Elderly, all common areas, as well as the rooms of the elderly had sufficient air conditioning to deal with the high temperatures observed.
In a small number of Homes, it was found that there were non-activated air conditioners. The necessary recommendations were made and the Social Welfare Services were informed for further action.
Ms Evangelou also met with the President of the Association of Private Nursing Homes, Mr Loizos Georgiades, with whom they exchanged views in relation to the provision of quality care services to the elderly and ways of expanding cooperation with the Ministry of State.
It is clarified that the instructions of the Social Welfare Services of the State Ministry of Social Welfare to the Nursing Homes, to deal with the conditions of very high temperatures, is to keep the air conditioners on throughout the day, as well as the Regulations of the relevant Law.
Among other things, it is also recommended to consume light meals and cold water.
