A tree planting ceremony was held on Friday, 29 March, by the staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, together with the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr Maria Panayiotou. The tree planting took place as part of the events celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Common Agricultural Policy in Cyprus.

Around 150 trees and shrubs of Cypriot flora, such as ropes, aradofnas and lasmaris, which were provided by the Forestry Department, were planted in order to create a green, model energy parking area. Among the trees planted, two orange trees stand out, which were donated by the government farm of the Department of Agriculture in Paphos. These are two mother trees, which after giving thousands of plants to the Cypriot citrus cultivation, were "retired" and are now planted in the Ministry's model photovoltaic park.

All trees and shrubs that have been planted are species with reduced water needs and adapted to local conditions, as well as with zero need for the use of pesticides.

The 73 KW photovoltaic model park is expected to be completed soon, and will help reduce the environmental footprint of the Ministry's building. It is to fully meet the energy needs of the building of the central directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, and there will be provision for charging electric cars.
