The Transport and Storage Business Cycle Index for the first quarter of 2024 reached 115.0 points (base year 2021=100), a decrease of 1.9% compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
By economic activity, increases compared to the first quarter of the previous year were recorded in postal & courier activities (10.2%) and land transport (4.2%), while decreases were observed in air transport (-15.2%), storage & support activities (-2.6%) and water transport (-1.3%)

Methodological Information
Definitions
The Transport and Storage Turnover Index monitors short-term developments in the turnover of enterprises operating in the land transport and pipeline transport sectors, water transport, air transport, storage and supporting transport activities (including the activity of shipping companies with a physical presence in Cyprus) and postal and courier activities.
Data collection
The survey is a sample survey of enterprises operating in the above sectors. It is conducted by telephone, fax and e-mail. The data are collected on a quarterly basis.
Method of calculation
The index is produced for the five branches of the Economic Activities Classification System (NACE Rev. 2), which make up the Transport and Storage sector. Its base year is 2015, i.e. it shows the change in turnover of enterprises for the reference period compared to the average of 2015. In the base year, the average of the quarterly indicators is 100.
The coefficients used for weighting are derived from the total sales of enterprises in the base year (2015) and reflect the turnover of each industry in relation to the sector as a whole.
