Methodological Information
Definitions
Tourists: Considered as visitors who stay at least one night in Cyprus
Tourist arrivals: The term refers to the number of visits and not to the number of persons. This differs in the sense that a person may make more than one visit in the given reference period.
Tourism receipts: Refers to the revenue generated by tourists during their trip to Cyprus.
Data Source and Coverage
The data on tourist expenditure are derived from the Travelers' Survey, which is conducted at the departure lounges of Larnaca and Paphos airports. The data is collected through personal interviews using an electronic questionnaire (CAPI - Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing method).
The data refers to state-controlled areas. They do not include travellers arriving and departing illegally through ports and airports in the occupied area of Cyprus.
