[PIO] The State Secretary for European Affairs participated in the Prague European Summit

Deputy Minister of State for European Affairs Marilena Raouna participated today as a speaker in a panel discussion at the Prague European Summit 2024, which takes place between 13 and 14 June in Prague.

The Deputy Minister participated as a speaker in a panel discussion on "Energy security first - pragmatic decisions affecting climate ambitions". The discussion focused on Europe's energy security in the light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which highlighted the need for energy independence of the European Union (EU). The participants and panelists discussed, among other issues, the EU's strategy for a green transition in view of the new geopolitical realities, as well as the priorities of the new European Commission.

In her intervention, Ms Raouna focused on the role that Cyprus can play in the EU's efforts to address the energy She also stressed that Cyprus is using energy as a catalyst for cooperation and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, while contributing to the path towards energy independence and, by extension, the strategic autonomy of the Union.

In the margins of the Summit, the Deputy Minister had a meeting with her Czech counterpart Martin Dvořák, Minister for European Affairs, during which they discussed, among other things, current issues of concern to the EU, including the strategic agenda for 2024-2029 and the future of Europe. The Deputy Minister also exchanged views on enlargement issues, migration, EU-Turkey relations and the Cyprus problem, as well as on the results of the recent elections for members of the European Parliament.

The Prague European Summit is organised by the Institute of International Relations and the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, under the patronage of the President of the Czech Republic, Mr Petr Pavel.
