The Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vasiliki Kassianidou, referred to the aim of the Deputy Minister of Culture to make culture a driver of development, during her meeting with the President of DIPA-Cooperation, Mr. The Deputy Minister of Culture visited the Party's offices today at noon, accompanied by the Director General of the Deputy Ministry, Mrs. Emmanouella Lamprianidis, as part of a series of contacts with the parliamentary parties.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister referred to culture. Through its exploitation, she added, cultural wealth can be a driving force for tourism, but also for economic development.
The Deputy Minister informed the President and the party representatives about the bill on the Status of the Artist, which aims, as she noted, to support the artistic world to continue its important work. He then noted that he estimates that around the end of 2024 the bill will be forwarded to the House of Representatives for a vote.
With regard to the theatre sector, the Deputy Minister spoke of the efforts being made towards addressing the major challenges. Regarding the Thymeli Plan, Dr. Kassianidou said that the Deputy Ministry has made changes based on the suggestions that have emerged from meetings with stakeholders in the past period. She informed that the Thymeli Plan will be submitted for public consultation soon with a view to being advertised around mid-March. He further assured the Ministry of State's willingness to proceed in the coming period with a more holistic planning, which aims at the viability and sustainability of the theatre space.
Dr. Kassianidou also referred to the measures taken to promote cultural literacy and education through the programmes "Schools Ambassadors of Culture - Children Ambassadors of Culture" and Philanagnosia, which are being piloted this year, as well as the Youth Culture Card, which aims to motivate young people to participate in the cultural events of the country.
During the meeting, he also mentioned the Ministry of State's efforts to introduce tax measures on the basis of the tax reform promoted by the Government. Finally, he spoke about the priority given by the Deputy Ministry of Culture to Cultural Diplomacy, noting that the procedures for designing a strategy for cultural diplomacy, aiming to use it for the promotion of Cyprus as a cultural centre, have progressed.
At the same time, issues concerning the development of artists were discussed, especially promotion measures to support the music sector, as well as the revision of the plans concerning the incentives given to private museums in order to make them viable.
For his part, the President of DIPA-Cooperation expressed his satisfaction with a number of initiatives, actions and activities promoted by the Ministry of Culture for the development and support of culture.
He stressed the need to protect cultural heritage, as well as the importance of cultural diplomacy for the promotion of Cypriot culture abroad.
In conclusion, he assured that the Party will contribute to the effort to take the right steps to achieve the goals of the Christodoulides administration in the field of culture.
