The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Anita Demetriou received today a resolution of the occupied municipalities of Kyrenia, Lapithos and Karavas, the Union of Kyrenia District Communities, the Kyrenia District Women's Club and the refugee associations "Lapithos" and "Karavas". Joseph Vialaris said that the resolution condemning the illegal Turkish invasion and ongoing occupation was adopted during the anti-riot event of the present bodies, at the Mound of Makedonitissa, on 22 July 2024, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the violent displacement of the legal residents of Kyrenia province from their homes. Mr. Violaris emphasized the need to respect the human rights of the displaced persons and in particular the right of all refugees to return to their homeland.
The Speaker assured that she will communicate the resolution to all Members of the House, stressing that "we keep the memory of our occupied territories indelible and we will not cede them to the occupier."

He also congratulated the occupied municipalities and associations for their activity aimed at promoting the rights of Cyprus internationally, stressing the importance of passing on the knowledge of the modern history of Cyprus, as well as the heroism and spirit of militancy to the younger generations. The Speaker of the Parliament also condemned the increasing Turkish provocativeness and referred in particular to Turkey's refusal to cooperate in resolving the humanitarian issue of the missing persons.
Finally, the need for further cooperation and coordination between the Parliament and the organized assemblies of the occupied communities was discussed, especially with regard to raising awareness of the political problem of Cyprus.
