[PIO] The Speaker of the Parliament received the new Austrian Ambassador to Cyprus

The Speaker of the House of Representatives received the new Ambassador of Austria to Cyprus, Mrs. Susanne Bachfischer, today at a formal meeting on the occasion of her assumption of office.

Welcoming Mrs. Bachfischer, the Speaker of the Parliament wished her every success in her new duties and expressed confidence that the excellent cooperation developed between the Parliament and the Embassy of Austria will continue and will be further strengthened.

During the meeting, the very good level of relations between the two countries and the prospects for further strengthening them in areas of common interest, with special reference to the parliamentary level, were noted. In this context, Demetriou stressed the importance of the upcoming visit to Cyprus of the President of the National Council of Austria, Mr. Wolfgang Sobotka, as a strong signal of the common will of the Parliaments of Cyprus and Austria to join forces to address common challenges and the added value of parliamentary diplomacy.

They also exchanged views on the results of the recent European Parliament elections and other issues of wider interest.
