The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, held a meeting today, Tuesday, October 3, 2023, with representatives of the Cyprus Platform for Gender Budget Inclusion.
During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the issue of gender mainstreaming in all stages of the budgetary process and, in particular, in the state budget.
The President was also informed about the Platform's actions and initiatives in relation to the promotion of policies that meet the needs of the whole society and, in particular, the promotion of accountability, transparency and gender equality.
The representatives of the Platform stressed the need to integrate gender budgeting in the state budget, with the aim of a fairer distribution of state resources in order to promote gender equality.
For her part, the President of the Parliament expressed particular interest in the Platform's actions and initiatives, recognizing in particular the importance of education in shaping a culture of gender equality.
In addition, the President of the Parliament highlighted the importance of integrating the gender budget at the stage of the preparation of the state budget by the executive power.
Finally, stressed her willingness to establish effective communication between the Parliament and the platform and to develop further cooperation
