[PIO] The President of the Republic will participate in the European Political Community Meeting and the Informal European Council in Granada

The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Nicos Christodoulides, will leave tomorrow morning for Granada, Spain, where he will participate in tomorrow's proceedings of the 3rd meeting of the European Political Community, while the day after tomorrow, October 6, 2023, he will participate in the work of the Informal European Council.

Specifically, on 5 October, the President of the Republic will participate in the thematic debate on multilateralism and security in the context of the European Political Community meeting, during which issues relating to respect for the UN Charter and the promotion of regional cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean as a model for multilateral cooperation will be discussed.

Greece, Switzerland, Finland, Finland, Lithuania, Luxembourg and Ireland, among other countries, are expected to participate in the thematic debate.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the President of the Republic will go to the Palace of Alhambra, where he will be received by King Felipe VI and his wife, and then attend a dinner hosted by the King in honour of the leaders of the countries participating in the meeting.

The following day, 6 October, the President of the Republic will participate in the Informal European Council, which will also take place in Granada.

Among the issues to be discussed at the Informal European Council will be the Strategic Agenda 2024-2029, including the enlargement of the Union, as well as migration and current affairs.

It is noted that, in the context of the discussion on topical issues, a letter will be presented by the MED9 countries, as agreed at their recent meeting in Malta, to the President of the European Council, Mr. Charles Michel, requesting further assistance and financial resources to the countries most affected by the effects of climate change and natural disasters.

President Christodoulides will be accompanied by the Government Spokesman, Mr. Konstantinos Letibiotis, the Director of the President's Diplomatic Office Ms. Marilena Raouna and officials.
