The President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Christodoulides received today, at the Presidential Palace, children - members of the football team Eleftheria - Pancyprios of New York.
These were 18 teenagers of the Diaspora who participate in the team, accompanied by their coaches and parents.
Welcoming the children and their escorts, the President of the Republic assured that the State will support the continuation of these visits of the children of the Diaspora to Cyprus.
He also noted that he maintains family and friendship ties with people living in the United States of America (USA), noting that he has lived a significant part of his life in the U.S.
He added that through his contacts with the expatriate community in the U.S. he has learned to love Cyprus more.
He pointed out that he himself knows how important work the Eleftheria-Pancyprios organization is doing and without expecting anything in return.
"You do all this only through your love for our country and may everyone follow your example," the President of the Republic said, expressing thanks for all that the expatriate community does for Cyprus.
For his part, the President of the Eleftheria - Pancyprios Children's Groups Mr. Nikos Tziazas, after referring to his acquaintance with President Christodoulides since 1993, praised the work carried out by the President of the Republic.
He also referred to the Pancyprian scholarship programme for teenagers involved in football, giving a historical review of the course of the Association, while he pointed out the great importance for the Diaspora of having their children visit Cyprus.
Then Mr. Tziazas presented on behalf of Eleftheria - Pancyprios a football shirt with the number 9 on it, noting that this number symbolizes the excellent work that President Christodoulides is doing for Cyprus.
Finally, the President of the Republic gave the children a tour of the Presidential Palace - including his Office - and made a brief historical review of the tragic events of 1974.
