The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Christodoulides, referred to the new chapter in bilateral relations opened by the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Cyprus at the lunch he hosted today at the Presidential Palace in honour of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in the framework of his official visit to the Republic of Cyprus.
In his address at the official lunch, the President of the Republic said that the visit of the Emir of Qatar to Cyprus is a unique honour that gives him the opportunity to repay the warm and excellent hospitality that he and the delegation that accompanied him during his official visit to Doha last November.
The President of the Republic also stressed that "Cyprus and Qatar are linked by geography and are part of the same neighbourhood. We are both advocates of diplomacy, dialogue and cooperation and we respond to the challenges of our region, striving to establish stability, peace and security.
Your official visit to Cyprus is the first by a Gulf leader since my election to the Presidency of the Republic. It is also your first visit to Cyprus, which is a strategic step in further developing and expanding our strong bilateral relations.
In welcoming you, Your Excellency, to Cyprus, I am convinced that today we begin to write the next chapter in the promising Cyprus-Qatar relations, for the benefit of our countries, our peoples and our region."
