The President of the House underlined that the EU must remain faithful to its legitimacy and principles and reaffirmed the desire of the legitimate residents of Famagusta to return to their town. He reiterated the will of the Greek Cypriot side to resume talks to resolve the Cyprus problem on the basis of a bizonal bicommunal federation with political equality and the relevant UN resolutions, as well as the principles and values of the EU and international law, rejecting the unacceptable Turkish claim for a two-state solution. Demetriou stressed that the resolution of the Cyprus problem can be a model of reunification and peaceful coexistence, calling for the support of the international community.
