The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mrs Anita Demetriou, expresses her shock at the violent attack on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in the town of Hadlova.
The President of Parliament condemns in the strongest possible terms such atrocious acts, which, she stresses, undermine the foundations of democracy and are unacceptable in civilised societies.
Demetriou underlines the collective responsibility of political leaders to join forces and intensify their efforts to effectively address all threats to democracy and shape a promising future that guarantees peace, security and the well-being of citizens.
In conclusion, the Speaker wishes the Slovak Prime Minister strength to overcome this ordeal as soon as possible and expresses her and all the Members of the House of Representatives' solidarity and support to his family, the Slovak Republic and its friendly people.
