The President of the National Council (Lower House of Parliament) of Austria Mr Wolfgang Sobotka arrives in Cyprus at noon for a two-day official visit, following an invitation by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Ms Anita Demetriou. Mr Sobotka will be accompanied by the Austrian Ambassador to Cyprus, Ms Susanne Bachfischer, and senior officials.
During his stay in Cyprus, the President of the National Council of Austria will be received by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, and will have a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ms Anita Demetriou. Moreover, as part of his visit to Cyprus, Mr Sobotka, accompanied by Mrs Demetriou, will have a meeting with the members of the Missing Persons' Committee at the Anthropological Laboratory and will tour Old Nicosia along the ceasefire line.
Later in the afternoon, the two Presidents will participate in a discussion entitled "Building synergies to address the migration crisis", with the participation of the Minister of Interior Mr. Constantinos Ioannou, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Interior Mr. Aristos Damianou and the Professor of the European University Cyprus Mr. George Bustra, which will take place at the Leventis Gallery. The debate will be attended by students participating in the "Internship in the House of Representatives" programme.
Subsequently, the Speaker of the House of Representatives will host a banquet in honour of the President of the National Council of Austria and his entourage. The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Mr Harris Georgiades, will also host a dinner in honour of the Austrian official tomorrow, Wednesday, in the presence of Members of the Committee.
The President of the Austrian National Council will be received at Larnaca Airport by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
