On the occasion of the start of the new school year, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MESY) emphasizes that the year begins in normal conditions, amidst dozens of innovations, reforms and new actions, which gradually lead to a modern, human-centered, democratic and inclusive school. By way of indication only, the following actions and innovations are mentioned:
- the restructuring of curricula and the reduction of unnecessary material,
- the improvement of teaching and learning conditions,
- the further autonomy of school units,
- the modernisation and expansion of all-day schooling,
- the transition from special to integrated education,
- the introduction of intervention programmes to prevent and combat violence/violence and illiteracy,
- the introduction of additional Life Education programmes,
- the upgrading of Technical and Vocational Education and Training,
- the transition to the digital school,
- the further empowerment of teachers,
- the further cultivation and promotion of the Greek language,
- the further strengthening and expansion of Pre-Primary Education,
- the installation of air-conditioning on the basis of integrated planning.
It is clear to any bona fide critic that the above indicative actions/reforms, combined with the set of policies and changes that are being promoted for the first time in a documented, targeted manner and on the basis of pedagogical criteria in our educational system, have already brought a new breath of life and significant progress in the education of our country. The Government's emphasis on Education is being demonstrated in practice through the increased, highly targeted investments and reforms already being carried out. It is important to keep education issues away from petty political considerations.
The Ministry of Education will continue to operate on the basis of planning, dialogue, discussion with all stakeholders and decisive decision-making towards resolving chronic issues and distortions in our education system.
