Meetings of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism with Local Authorities across Cyprus continue
A meeting was held today, 6 August 2024, at the "George Seferis" Cultural Centre in Ayia Napa, the presentation of the findings of the Tourism Observatory to Local Authorities of the free province of Famagusta, in the framework of the meetings that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is holding in all provinces of Cyprus on "The Role of Local Authorities in Tourism Development - Tourism Observatory Findings".
The meeting was attended by the President of the Tourism Development and Promotion Company (TDPC) of Famagusta, Mayor of Ayia Napa Mr. Mr. Christos Zannetou, the Mayor of Paralimniu-Derynia Mr. George Nicolettos, Deputy Mayors of Famagusta District, members of EBRD Famagusta and executives of companies operating in the tourism sector.
Today's presentation is a continuation of the meetings planned by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism with local government bodies throughout Cyprus and is part of a wider effort to strengthen cooperation between them in order to upgrade the tourism product of Cyprus.
In his address, the Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. Costas Koumis said that "the modern needs of tourist destinations are shaped by a number of factors related to changes in the preferences and demands of tourists, technological developments, environmental challenges and socio-economic changes".
Furthermore, he stressed the need to focus on the personalized services that visitors seek, on health safety and cleanliness, and on the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the region. It is noted that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is in the process of separating the individual tourist destinations, in an effort to achieve a more targeted and specialised survey in the future - where data will be separated by destination rather than by province. On behalf of those present, suggestions and concerns were submitted, which were recorded by the Deputy Minister of Tourism Mr. Kostas Koumis, who informed about the current situation around each issue raised, as well as about the actions the Ministry intends to take.
Mr. Koumis thanked the attendees for their presence and their interest, stating that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism understands and listens to the concerns expressed in relation to the course of tourism, reiterating the positive mood that exists for dialogue and joint action with all stakeholders, aiming to upgrade the tourism product of our country. "We are here, today, to send and receive messages", he said.
