In view of the flowering of the Cypriot tulip (Tulipa cypria), the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment invites the public to visit the areas where it grows, in order to see or photograph it, and to avoid destroying the plant or degrading its habitat in any way, in order to preserve its protection.

The Cyprus tulip, a rare endemic plant, is currently flowering in various parts of the country. It is found in the occupied villages of Kormakitis-Mirtou-Panagra and on the Karpasia peninsula, near the village of Agios Simeon. In the free areas it is found in the Akamas peninsula and between the villages of Mammari-Deneia (green line).

The species is endemic and rare, so special care is required for its conservation, so that its habitat is not degraded or destroyed, or its small populations reduced by collection, eradication and trampling.

The endemic tulip is included in Annexes II and IV of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) and in the Law on the Protection and Management of Nature and Wildlife [NO. 153(I)/2003]. According to the provisions of the Directive and the legislation on the conservation of the species, the declaration of Special Conservation Areas included in the European Network Natura 2000 is required. The species is also included in the Red Book of the Flora of Cyprus, where it is classified as Endangered.
