[PIO] The Ministry of Agriculture organises a workshop on the conservation and promotion of the local breed of cattle in Cyprus

The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and BirdLife Cyprus, with the support of the Cyprus Institute and the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, are co-organizing a workshop on "Native Cattle Breeds in Cyprus" on Friday, March 15, at the Cyprus Institute.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together all stakeholders involved in the conservation and promotion of the indigenous cattle breed in Cyprus, through research projects, funding programmes, etc, to present their activities. A discussion will follow in order to create synergies, possible collaborations and provide direction for future steps.

The workshop will be addressed by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Dr. Maria Panayiotou, the President of the Cyprus Institute Dr. Stavros Malas and on behalf of the Director of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training Mr. Michalis Tsiarlistos.

The actions will be presented by the Association of Native Cattle Breeders, the Managing Authority of the Rural Development Programme, the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science of the Cyprus University of Technology, the Cyprus Institute, BirdLife Cyprus, the Department of Agriculture, the Agricultural Research Institute, the Environmental Department of British Bases, the Veterinary Services and the Directorate of Secondary Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

As part of the workshop, a lunch will be provided, including a tasting of Native Cattle Breed meat by the Culinary Technical Schools of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth.

The workshop is being organised as part of the Darwin Plus 141 project entitled 'Habitat Restoration and Sustainable Use for Cape Verde and Cape Pyla'.

The project is funded by Darwin Plus, with BirdLife Cyprus (coordinator), Terra Cypria, the Environmental Department of the British Bases and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (BirdLife in the UK).

The workshop is part of the events organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the Rural Development Programmes in Cyprus.
